You can still get a prisoner one of two ways. However, these options are not available. Normally you get these from your cult, either converting followers/hirelings or sending a cultist out to get one. So, we need to get to the Malleary.Īs I am sure you are aware, the Spider door requires prisoners. However, the level 12 Forge ingredient can be found in the Malleary as well. The only things remaining that have enough are the Level 15 influence in the Malleary through the Spider door, and level 12 Forge tools/ingredients, which are going to be quite difficult to get from expeditions since they only drop from the higher level expeditions. We need 14 more (or 10 more if we upgrade the forge lore all the way). So, we've gotten 10 from lore and 10 from King Crucible, for a total of 22. You can now use King Crucible to solo many of the remaining expeditions if you want, since his 12 Forge + 12 Edge makes him quite versatile. Rite of the Map's Edge is very useful here, since it uses Influence + Tool + Lore. Once you do get it, summon King Crucible. Now this of course is a little RNG dependent, so hope that you are able to get either the Knock or Lantern loot you need. These should be enough for you to run the early expeditions, which I recommend so that you can get the tools/ingredients to summon King Crucible (for instance a noonstone, or Knock/Lantern paint which you can use to create the unique painting), and also to get more lore books to make upgrading your Forge lore easier and give you more options for rites. There are level 5 hirelings for Forge, Knock, Edge, Lantern, and Moth. Normally you run these with your followers, but you can use hirelings instead. ![]() Another source is of course Tools and Ingredients, which brings us to the next topic: Expeditions. There is a 10 Knock influence through the Stag door, and a 6 Lantern through the White door in the Orchard of Lights. You can use the Lore for Forge, but now you need 2 more things and you don't have any followers, so you can't use them. So how do you summon him? You need 10 Forge, 5 Knock, and 2 Lantern. Since you are not founding a cult he is the only follower available to you with a high enough Forge aspect to be useful. King Crucible has a level 12 Forge aspect. Now what? You need two more high level sources of Forge lore. ![]() If you subvert a lot and are careful with your subversion, this should be more than enough to get to a level 10 Forge lore. Step one is to buy all the books from Morland's/Auction house. How do you get it? In normal games what I typically do is 10 from lore, 12 from King Crucible, and 15 from the influence you can find in the Malleary, through the Spider door. I chose Power for my temptation since it's the easiest ascension, and that is especially true without a cult for reasons that will become clear in a bit. ![]() Any legacy would work, but I think the extra funds and the extra health are helpful. Endgame spoilers ahead, this is written for people already familiar with it. Out of boredom I decided to try and get an Ascension victory without ever actually founding a cult, and it turns out that this is possible, although it is somewhat harder than normal.
